Buzzard Bylines 1974
- Lorraine Evans
My job at Covenant Pres. ends May 1 so I'm presently
busy trying to "tie up loose ends" and get all my belongings packed.
I'm not sure where I'll be this summer.
I have a job offer in Rock Hill, where I will be teaching this fall
in Trinity Christian School, but don't know yet whether to take that
or go home to PA.
The last of Aug. I'll be headed to FL to be Doris's [Bauer] maid of honor.
-
Wayne Whitmire, Mike Simmons, Keith Wigley, & Gary Minion
We're still together. Wayne finished up his last 5 hours so will be
graduating in June. Mike has had some exciting experiences meeting
Jewish people at Davisons, where he is a porter. He's saving money
for a trip to Israel.
Keith will be working at the auto parts store through the summer and by
fall will either go back to school or into some form of youth ministry.
Gary has applied to enter USC this summer to start on a Masters in Ed.,
perhaps in history. We'd like to report that our Air Force buddy, Dan Wall,
has found he has a real opportunity to minister. He has been leading a
Bible Study and his roommate has been saved.
-
Al & Claudia Pearce
Claudia is a jr. at CBC and I'm still at the
Richland Co. Sheriff's Dept. The Lord opened the door for me to go into
the Warrant Den where I work straight night shift, but am off Sat. &
Sun. One night we picked up a young black man on a minor charge. 'PK' said
he was glad because he wanted to get straightened out. He had just
committed his life to Christ a few weeks before. We had a good time of
fellowship and the next evening I had the pleasure of showing him around
the school he had applied to a few days before--Columbia Bible College.
-
Lee Watson
I have been working since summer with my parents here in
Peru. Apathy seems to be a characteristic of believers here and a work
of the Holy Spirit is needed. I have had the privilege of witnessing,
giving out tracts, and leading some to Christ. Pray I will know what
God would have me do after the summer. Our friend Jerry (Gutierrez) was
recently appointed as president of a national Christian youth organization.
He has also seen some of his formerly Communist family come to Christ.
In March he and Ruth Marshall (CBC '68), Colin's sister, were married.
-
Mark & Linda [Nichols] Thomas
We are enjoying life together in Charlotte, thanking the Lord for
meeting all our needs.
I am working as youth minister at a church and Linda is teaching
at a Christian school in the city.
We may move on sometime in the fall.
-
Pam & Fred Tuggy
Our daughter, Wendy Lois, was born Dec. 31.
She's a lovely brown-eyed brunette. We have applied for mission work with
Orinoco River Mission in Venzuela.
-
Grady & Vicki Merritt
Grady will be applying for the MAT in English in mid-April.
Presently he is a carpenter's apprentice (a year
of night classes starting in Sept. and 3 more years of work would
qualify him as a carpenter).
Being in a relatively untrained church is burdening us more and
more for Christian Ed. in the local church.
We don't know now how the Lord will work the 'strands' together but
we know He will.
We're still actively teaching SS, are on the Youth Council,
and Vicki will be a director during VBS.
-
Al & Daisy Ortiz
We are involved in a shift of directions.
After being tentatively assigned to Spain last June by WIM,
much study was done and I made a trip to the Dominican Republic,
and now we and the mission directors feel that is the Lord's will
that we go there.
August, 1974 is our target date for departure.
We have committed to us $273 of our $940 needed monthly support.
We also need $6500 cash to purchase household
equipment, airfare, a car and shipping costs.
We also need prayer partners.
We are thankful to know many of our class will be praying for us.
-
Wayne Graves
I'm working with a youth group, mainly covering a theology course.
Most are witnessing on their own.
The job I have is a learning experience.
Electricity and mechanical work is all I'm doing.
The main thing I'm learning is I'm growing more in love for Wendy [Ingalls]
and I desire more each day to be married to her.
-
Marlita [Knight] & Bill Walker
Bill's working at Montgomery Ward's and I'm tutoring 6th-8th graders
in MATH of all things!
Bill's been serving as interim pastor for a church of 70 since early Jan.
They've called a pastor now but we're considering staying on to work
with the youth and help train the church people.
I'm teaching Sr. Hi SS and also have a Good
News Club every Tues.
I'm trying to decide whether or not to continue in
education--sometimes I think I'd never enjoy anything else and then
there are times of utter frustration.
I know He's molding and trying me so it's okay!
-
Doris Bauer
I'm enjoying teaching 17 kindergarten children.
This summer I will attend SIL and then in late Aug. will be married
to Neil Wolfe, a pilot for Wycliffe/JAARS.
The Lord is SO good--Praise His name.
He certainly knows what is best and how to perfect his plan.
-
Gene & Bonnie Ward
We are here in Cola. with Bonnie attending CBC
and I'm hard at work with the brick company.
Both of us are adjusting to married life and enjoying it to the fullest.
-
Cheryl Mashburn & Jochen Stahl
we will be married May 18 and leave
for Germany June 9. Our address will be....
-
Deb & Paul Haken
God is so good!
Paul is working on the
maintenance crew at an apartment complex and I'm working part-time
at Hardee's where we've had many opportunities to witness.
Teaching kindergarten continues to be a challenge and joy.
We're in the process of applying to SIM and will be going to candidate
school this summer.
Their doctrinal is a lot harder than the one we had at CBC.
-
Dottie Piper
Stan Smith and I are planning to be married June 11 in
Charlotte, probably Calvary Pres. Church.
You are welcome to come share our joy.
We'll be going out to Ft. Worth where Stan will be in Seminary, the
Lord willing.
I don't know if I'll continue teaching--we'll wait and see.
Whatever God had for us I'm surely excited about it.
-
Armand & Jean LeBlanc
So far we have visited 6 churches other than our home ones concerning
our missionary work in Iran.
We have as of now 1% of passage, 2% of monthly support and 40% of
our prayer partners.
It now seems impossible to leave for God's chosen place, where we will work
in correspondence school and church planting, by Oct. 1.
Pray for us that we will know God's timing and that we will be
fruitful with the youth group at Maple St. So. Methodist Church.
-
Charles Winter
since Sept. I am Director of Youth and Chairman of the
Christian Ed. Committee at Venice Bible Church, Venice Fla.
God has taught me many, many valuable lessons through this time.
One is the need for constant prayer and a consistent life so that others will
come to Christ as Savior.
God has brought the most wonderful girl into my life, Connie Jameson,
and we will be married in her father's church in Crabapple, Ga. on July 12.
We are seeking God's next step.
I still feel led to teach but am not sure if I will be my Master's
degree, or work on certification as I teach.
-
Tricia & Dan Miller
Our plans are to work here-Dan teaching flying,
Tricia at Shoney's-through Aug.
We are planning on SIL a year from June, the Lord willing.
We aren't sure if we'll remain here next year or move
on to something else.
Our wedding day was beautiful and it is especially
exciting to see how He's providing so faithfully for us.
We praise Him!
-
Rachel [Reavis] and Bill Ellis
We've joined Trinity Methodist Church
and are teaching, Bill in Sr. Hi, I in children's church.
I am working 2 days a week in a dental office and really enjoy it.
-
Rusty Russell
I did not go with Campus Crusade, but stayed home because my mother needed
my help.
I have a great job with a Christian book supply warehouse (UNILIT)
near Six Flags.
Presently I'm discouraged with the idea of having to finish school,
but I know I'd better.
Please pray for me as UNILIT is offering me a future with the company
and I love the work.
-
Cliff & Jayne Moore
In 3 months Jayne will have her R.N. and in October we are expecting a baby.
We're really excited.
-
Martha Bass
I'm at John Brown U. taking 17 hrs. and working part-time
as a secretary in a real estate office.
I'll be going to the U. of Ark. for summer school, Lord willing,
and working here.
The Lord is giving me first hand experience in business with books,
etc. for the camp.
Praise the Lord that He knows best in all things.
-
Wanda Dowdy
A warm Texas greeting to y'all.
I spent the summer with 13 & 14-yr. old girls at a camp in NC.
The next couple of months I was with my family and now I'm in Lubbock
working full time with CEF.
The middle of March I will be going to Mich. to attend the CEF Leadership
Training Institute.
Let's look to Jesus for this day (Heb. 12:2) and
be content with what God has for us just today.
-
Terry & Bev Thames
We were married Oct. 20.
Terry is working in the kitchen at CBC and Bev is an R.N. at State Hospital.
We're enjoying married life and are having lots of fun.
We plan to be in Cola. until June, '75.
We'll be going to SIL in OK then and again in June, '76.
Jungle Camp in Mexico Jan. '76 probably; the mission field about Nov.
or any time thereafter.
-
Clint Morrison
In March I will finish a year's study toward my M.Div.
degree at New Orleans Bapt. Theo. Seminary.
I praise the Lord for this time of study, searching and exploring.
May 30-Aug. 15 I will be studying at the Institute of Archaeology,
Tel Aviv U. in Israel.
As for the future, I know only one thing--"His way is Perfect."
-
Steve Parrish
Now, I'm a full part-time student at Winthrop College
going to class at night and lollygaging with the books in the daytime. I'm
not ready to say what's next--whether a job or maybe an M.A.T.
-
Wendy Ingalls
God led Wayne and me to postpone our wedding to June __
[faded out].
Wayne's working for the city of Jacksonville and I'm working
as a secretary for a lumber company and really enjoy it.
I'm going home to McColl in mid-May to complete wedding plans.
My burden while here is twofold: my family and those I work with
who aren't Christians and the Lord's personal dealings with me to
make sure my commitment to Him is what it should be.
-
Marlene & Paul Wenzel
At long last we're married and it's tremendous.
Paul and I are both holding secular jobs and saving money so he can
enter Biblical School of Theology in Sept.
Feel free to come visit us--we'd love to have you any time!
-
Glynis Fields & DeAnne Peterson
We'll both be leaving Cola. this summer but aren't real sure as to
just what is next.
Peaches had a foot operation Mar.4 and has been getting around in a cast.
She will be moving home in May or June, and still wants to go to the
mission field, but where or when is not yet clear.
Glynis will be leaving in June or July to go into teaching.
One sure thing, HE is definitely leading.
-
Roy Surles
I have returned home from one semester of SIL to finish
solving some personal family conflicts and personal life problems.
The Lord is merciful, patient and firm in His performing His work of
grace within me.
I want to glorify Christ or rather let the Holy Spirit glorify Christ
through me.
My home church is returning toward the NT form of life, communion,
and fellowship.
-
Sylvia Phelps
I'm still working at Walter Reed Hospital--still loving it!
This has been a wonderful year of simply enjoying Him and His many
blessings.
I have recently moved into a new apartment with another girl who
is not a Christian.
Needless to say, I'm learning much about practical Christian living.
-
Larry & Lenore Hill
We are working for the Coalition for Christian Outreach at Geneva College.
We are also living in an apt. complex as resident directors for 224 men
students.
I am applying to Westminster Theological Seminary in Phila. Pa. and hope
to be able to teach theology after I graduate.
We're looking forward to being with former CBC'ers in the area.
